Runway Knits

It’s again that time of the year when Project Runway (in this case, the All Stars edition) runs on TV! While I find the show quite repetitive (I always fast-forward the 15 minutes between the first critique and the final runway show), I am never tired of witnessing the creativity of the designs the contestants are able to come up with within only a few hours. Of course, I also allow myself to daydream, thinking what if I got myself a sewing machine… The truth is, however, that I can’t even sew a button! But I haven’t lost the hope of becoming a knit designer once I’ve got all my knits and purls together 🙂

Anyhow, watching the show made me wonder whether there are also designers who focus on, or who have released high-end fashion knit collections, so I started searching the web and found lots of cool inspiration. I would probably not wear many of these looks -imagine the looks I’d get at the office if I showed up inside an avantgarde knitted cocoon!- but they sure are showpieces, and they photograph great! Check the designer’s name and their website at the bottom of each picture.

One last thing: I have gone mad trying to find the designer of the cocoon that I used for the title image, with no luck so far. Anyone has a clue of who the designer is? I think the photographer might be Steven Miesel (known fashion photographer, and author of the photographs in Madonna’s book, Sex), but not even that is clear to me!
